'I can't afford to eat and sometimes live off three pot noodles a week
Amanda Fallows, a 53-year-old from Greater Manchester with COPD and PTSD, relies on PIP and other benefits totalling £600/month. She struggles to afford rent, bills, and food, sometimes living on three Pot Noodles a week. Budget announcements including Universal Credit increases and PIP restrictions terrify her, and the health element of Universal Credit will be frozen at £97 per week until 2029/30, and halved for new claimants from April 2026. She can't afford transport to food banks and has lost weight.
