The cultural sector in Quebec faces significant challenges, including precarious work, low incomes, and inadequate social safety nets. To address this, there is an urgent need to strengthen the social safety net, particularly employment insurance, for independent artists and cultural workers. This includes advocating for increased funding for arts councils and federal programs, increasing employment opportunities and revenues for rights holders, and improving income distribution. A coalition is forming to improve the cultural sector's social safety net, focusing on employment insurance, which would require cultural enterprises to pay the employer's share. Ultimately, a national summit is needed to discuss the future of culture and its infrastructure.
