ILO Intensifies Efforts Against Child Labour In Nigerian States

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has intensified its efforts to combat child labour in Nigeria’s artisanal small-scale gold mining (ASGM) supply chains in Niger and Osun States. Through its ACCEL Africa Project, the ILO conducted workshops from February 18–27, 2025, to empower stakeholders, including government representatives, employers, workers, and community leaders, to eliminate child labour and uphold occupational safety and health (OSH) standards. Participants were trained to enforce Community Action Plans (CAPs), monitor and report child labour cases, and implement interventions. The project aims to strengthen institutions to develop and implement policies to eradicate child labour in the cocoa and ASGM sectors, while addressing root causes such as poverty and lack of social protection.
