Humane, a Silicon Valley AI hardware startup, was partially acquired by HP for $116 million, significantly less than the $240 million it had raised. The acquisition led to a bifurcation among Humane's 200 employees, with some receiving job offers from HP with 30-70% pay raises, while others, particularly those involved with the AI Pin devices, were laid off immediately. HP formed a new innovation lab, HP IQ, to integrate AI into its products, focusing on Humane's AI software engineers. The AI Pin business was discontinued, with customers advised to recycle their devices. While some employees saw this as a positive outcome, others faced abrupt layoffs, marking a mixed result for Humane.
