Ireland ‘incredibly important’ to Apple, Tim Cook tells Taoiseach

Letter from tech giant’s chief executive to Micheál Martin came against backdrop of concerns raised with in recent months about infrastructure

In a letter to Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Apple CEO Tim Cook emphasized Ireland's importance to Apple, praising the country's commitment to inward investment and infrastructure. Cook highlighted Apple's 6,000+ employees in Ireland and the planned expansion of its Cork campus. This follows concerns raised by Apple about "aggressive competition" from other countries and infrastructure in Cork. The letter, released under the Freedom of Information Act, doesn't mention the Apple tax case, though it was discussed by Donald Trump and Micheál Martin. Amazon executives also congratulated Martin, noting their commitment to Ireland, with a dedicated online store opening this year.
