On March 12, 2025, the Israeli army announced dozens of airstrikes on southern Syria, involving 22 warplanes and 60 bombs. These attacks follow increased Israeli military activity in Syria since the collapse of the Ba'ath regime in late 2024, including the expansion of its occupation in the Golan Heights and incursions near Damascus. The Israeli Defense Minister had previously threatened the Syrian government and expressed intentions to make the Israeli occupation in southern Syria permanent.
