‘It’s definitely not moving’: another bear makes evacuated LA home its own

In January, two incidents of black bears taking refuge in evacuated homes in Southern California were reported. A 525-pound bear, named Barry, was found in Altadena and relocated to the Angeles National Forest using peanut butter and rotisserie chicken. In Pasadena, another bear, weighing between 500 to 600 pounds, was discovered in a crawlspace. Wildlife officials were aware of the situation and working on a response. Homeowners are advised to contact wildlife professionals to address such issues and seal crawlspaces. The increase in bear sightings is linked to urban expansion, drought, and a growing bear population. California black bears are generally non-aggressive, but homeowners are encouraged to take preventive measures to deter them.
