At her Santa Fe clinic in New Mexico, animal chiropractor Dr Sherry Gaber was treating a four-legged patient when the phone rang. It was actor Gene Hackman 's wife Betsy Arakawa.
Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy were found dead at their home on February 26th, along with their dog Zinna, who died of dehydration and starvation in a crate. A woman who cared for their dogs for 18 years believes the deaths were accidental, as the couple loved their dogs and Betsy would never knowingly put them in danger. The cause of the Hackmans' deaths is still under investigation.
