Jack Reacher author explains why book readers ‘were right’ to disapprove of Tom Cruise

‘They were terribly upset about it,’ Child said

Lee Child, the author of the Jack Reacher series, explains that fans were justified in disapproving of Tom Cruise's portrayal of Jack Reacher in the films. In the books, Reacher is described as extremely tall (6ft 5in) and broad, which Cruise, at 5ft 7in, did not match. Child acknowledges that while Cruise was a pleasure to work with, the fans were correct in their dissatisfaction. The role was later taken over by Alan Ritchson in the Amazon series, whom Child praises as the perfect fit. The upcoming third season, based on Child's seventh book, *Persuader*, is generating excitement, particularly due to the introduction of antagonist Paulie, who is even taller than Reacher.
