Japan’s Muto Reiterates Plea for Exemption From Trump Tariffs

Japan’s trade minister doubled down on a request for Japan to be excluded from President Donald Trump’s tariff campaign in his first in-person discussions with his US counterparts.



Japanese Trade Minister Yoji Muto requested an exemption from US President Trump's tariffs during meetings with US officials but did not receive immediate confirmation. The US emphasized reviving its manufacturing industry, and both sides agreed to continue trade consultations. Upcoming tariffs on steel, aluminum, and foreign car imports are scheduled to take effect soon. Muto and US counterparts also discussed an Alaskan gas project.
