Jüdisches Filmfestival: Israelische Vielfalt – von Krieg bis Komik

The 33rd Jewish Film Festival in Vienna, titled "Israelische Vielfalt – von Krieg bis Komik," runs from March 11th to 25th, curated by Fréderic-Gérard Kaczek. Showcasing 49 productions, including 41 features and documentaries, and 8 short films, many of which are Austrian or European premieres, the festival explores themes from war to comedy. The opening event features a talk by Michel Wieviorka on combating antisemitism, followed by the Hungarian film "All About the Levkoviches." Highlights include "The Vanishing Soldier," a story of an Israeli soldier avoiding combat, and "Bliss," depicting an elderly couple in Israel. The festival also delves into the Shoah with films like "Saving the Children" and "The Story of Anette Zelman." It addresses contemporary issues such as antisemitism in "Troll Storm." Additional events include panel discussions on Jewish diversity, living as a Jew in Vienna, and a talk on Gaza. Performances by Lea Kalisch, known for her blend of Yiddish, feminism, and sensuality, will also take place.
