The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a U.S.-allied Kurdish coalition, has warned that ISIS is exploiting the security vacuum created by the collapse of Bashar Assad's regime in Syria. The SDF has conducted numerous operations against ISIS since December 2024, coordinating with the U.S.-led Global Coalition. ISIS has gained strength in remote areas, particularly near the Iraqi border, as Assad's forces withdrew and left behind weapons. The SDF faces challenges from both ISIS and Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) groups. Meanwhile, HTS, the de facto Syrian government, has taken steps to counter ISIS, including capturing a high-ranking ISIS operative, while also engaging with Kurdish leaders to address local issues like militia taxation. The situation remains complex, with ongoing efforts to stabilize the region amidst shifting alliances and conflicts.
