La contestation continue après l’incarcération du maire d’opposition d’Istanbul

Ekrem İmamoğlu a été désigné candidat de son parti pour l’élection présidentielle de 2028.

Following the arrest of Istanbul's opposition mayor, Ekrem Imamoglu, widespread protests have erupted across Turkey, reminiscent of the 2013 Gezi Park movement. Student-led demonstrations are growing, with gatherings occurring nightly in Istanbul. The mayor's arrest has been condemned internationally as an attack on democracy and has negatively impacted Turkey's already struggling economy. Despite his imprisonment, Imamoglu has been symbolically nominated as the CHP's candidate for the 2028 presidential election. Over 1300 arrests have been made by authorities in response to the protests.
