The Peruvian Prosecutor's Office raided the home and other properties of Interior Minister Juan José Santiváñez as part of an investigation into alleged influence peddling. Santiváñez is accused of accepting US$20,000 to influence decisions in favor of clients before the Constitutional Court, the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE), and the Ministry of Justice while practicing law. The prosecution has requested an 18-month travel ban and presented WhatsApp messages, audios, and images as evidence. A protected witness claims Santiváñez continued negotiations even after becoming Minister, leveraging his position for influence. The raid aimed to seize documents and devices relevant to the case.
