L’astéroïde YR4 a 3,1% de chances de frapper la Terre en 2032

Si cela arrivait, son impact pourrait être 500 fois plus puissant que la bombe nucléaire d’Hiroshima.

The asteroid YR4 has a 3.1% chance of colliding with Earth on December 22, 2032, marking the highest risk level ever recorded, according to NASA. Measuring between 40 and 90 meters in diameter, the asteroid could cause catastrophic damage, including destroying a city, with an impact 500 times more powerful than the Hiroshima atomic bomb. Experts, including Bruce Betts of the Planetary Society, emphasize the need to closely monitor the asteroid while noting there is no immediate cause for panic. The risk assessment is expected to evolve as more data is gathered, though time is limited due to the asteroid's receding orbit. If it were to strike Earth, its potential impact would be comparable to the 1908 Tunguska event in Siberia.
