Law Society complains about changes to service provided by Land Registry

Land Registry has told solicitors' representative committee it is ‘not an advisory body’

The Law Society has expressed "growing frustration" over changes implemented in 2023 by Tailte Éireann (formerly the Land Registry), leading to increased application rejections and hindering conveyancing for solicitors and clients. The Law Society committee says the Land Registry now rejects applications based on a "first rejectable reason" and struggles to address errors made by Land Registry staff, leading to multiple lodgements and delays. The Law Society committee says this is impacting solicitors who now find themselves having to make multiple lodgements of the same applications, and that rejections are sometimes based on errors made by the registry staff. The Law Society is concerned that this is at a time when there is a national housing crisis.
