A study by the Montreal Heart Institute shows the genetic profile of Quebecers plays a significant role in certain heart diseases. The 14-year study involving 2100 patients with suspected hereditary arrhythmias or cardiomyopathies, revealed that a quarter of those tested had an identifiable cardiac genetic anomaly. The study highlights the importance of understanding the genetic basis of heart disease in the Quebec population, especially given the high percentage of participants with French-Canadian ancestry, which can lead to more targeted screening and improved patient management.
