Major supermarket will close 52 cafes, 35 meat counters and 17 stores with 365 staff at risk of redundancy

The company says 'a wide-ranging review identified a number of areas where the costs of operations are significantly out of line with usage, volumes or the value that customers place on them'.

Morrisons is closing 17 stores, 52 cafes, 18 Market Kitchens, 13 florists, 35 meat counters, 35 fish counters and four pharmacies, putting 365 jobs at risk due to rising costs. Despite the closures, CEO Rami Baitiéh remains optimistic about the company's future and aims to grant more autonomy to buyers and store managers. The company's sales have risen in 2024.
