Man convicted over plot to commit FGM in ‘landmark case’ has sentence increased

Emad Kaky, 48, was the first person convicted of conspiracy to commit FGM in England and Wales. Initially sentenced to four and a half years, his sentence was increased to seven years after the Court of Appeal reviewed the case under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme. Kaky had planned to send a young girl to Iraq for FGM and forced marriage, with evidence from his phone confirming his intent. The government emphasizes its commitment to eradicating FGM as part of its effort to reduce violence against women and girls.
