Man jailed for ‘deplorable’ email to Jess Phillips amid Musk criticism

Jack Bennett, a 39-year-old man from Seaton, Devon, has been jailed for sending malicious and offensive emails to MP Jess Phillips, Sir Sadiq Khan, and Matt Twist, the assistant commissioner at the Met Police. The email to Phillips, described as "utterly deplorable," was sent on January 2, 2025, following Elon Musk's controversial remarks about her, which the Prime Minister said had crossed a line and led to threats against her. The judge noted that the email caused Phillips "great distress" and that the communications to all three individuals were foul, abusive, and intended to insult and offend. Bennett pleaded guilty to four counts of sending malicious communications and one count of using a public communication network to send offensive emails.
