Man subjected to ‘punishment regime’ at Tipperary community home settles High Court action for €400,000

Derek Slater, who has moderate disability, was given hot and cold showers, locked in room and made to push faulty wheelbarrow, judge is told

Derek Slater, a man with special needs, settled a High Court action against Camphill Communities of Ireland for €400,000. The lawsuit stemmed from a "punishment regime" Slater was subjected to at their Tipperary community home between 2004 and 2006, involving cold/hot showers and forced labor. Camphill Communities of Ireland apologized for failing to protect and support Slater.
