‘Management aren’t open to it’: Why remote working rates are lower in Northern Ireland

Economist warns the lack of work-from-home opportunities in the North could affect recruitment and retention of staff



Northern Ireland's remote working rate (17%) is lower than the Republic of Ireland (34%) and the UK overall (31%) due to the types of jobs available, the smaller size of firms, and a management culture less open to remote work. This is reflected in fewer job adverts offering remote options and could impact future recruitment and retention. Cross-border commuting facilitated by remote work may also skew the figures.
