Number of births in the area hospital covers has fallen by 14 per cent in the area in the past five years
The maternity unit at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead will close due to a 14% decline in birth rates over the past five years. This decision, confirmed by the North Central London Integrated Care Board, is part of a restructuring plan that will leave four other maternity units open in the area. The birthing suites at Edgware Birth Centre will also close, while antenatal and postnatal care services at the centre will expand.
