Measles cases surging at Europe's ski resorts: Holidaymakers warned after outbreaks of viral infection hits several countries

Italy , Austria and Switzerland were listed among the European countries struck by the viral infection - which are among the most popular for skiing.

Measles cases are surging at European ski resorts, particularly in Italy, Austria, and Switzerland, prompting health officials to urge holidaymakers to verify their vaccination status. Measles, a highly contagious viral infection, spreads through coughing, sneezing, or breathing and causes symptoms like rashes, cough, and high fever. Over 10 million cases were reported globally last year, linked to declining vaccination rates since the COVID pandemic. Public health organizations advise vaccination before travel and recommend early measles vaccines for unvaccinated infants aged six to twelve months.
