Measles tracker: These US states have reported cases of the ‘eliminated’ condition

The first death from measles since 2015 was reported in an unvaccinated child in Texas this week

The first measles-related death in the U.S. since 2015 was reported in Texas, highlighting a resurgence of the disease. Six states—Texas, New Mexico, Georgia, Alaska, New Jersey, and California—have reported cases. Texas has seen over 120 cases, primarily affecting individuals aged 5 to 17, while New Mexico has nine unrelated cases. New Jersey reported two additional cases linked to international travel. Measles can survive in the air for two hours, contributing to its spread. The outbreaks are linked to declining vaccination rates, with the CDC noting 338 cases between 2020 and March 2024.
