The 1954 mural-sized painting nearly quadrupled its estimated value
MF Husain's 1954 mural-sized painting, "Untitled (Gram Yatra)," unseen for 70 years and previously housed at Oslo University Hospital, sold for a record $13.8 million at Christie's, becoming the most expensive piece of modern Indian art sold at auction. The painting, depicting rural Indian life, nearly quadrupled its estimated value, and the proceeds will fund a medical training center.
