This July 1 marks the 40th anniversary of Canada’s first wireless call. According to Rogers, it happened at Nathan Phillips Square in downtown Toronto.At the time, Toronto's mayor, Art Eggleton, made the call with Montreal's Mayor Jean Drapeau using a 10-pound (4.5kg) mobile phone. Rogers provided this call.In July 1985, mobile networks only were able to handle 100 calls per day, but now, Canadians make about 100 million calls and use 6.5 billion megabytes of data on Rogers wireless network."Our wireless journey began with a single call, and it was the beginning of many innovative firsts," said Tony Staffieri, president and CEO of Rogers in a press release.
