Police used rubber bullets, pepper spray, tear gas, and water cannons against demonstrators. Hundreds of thousands participated, and dozens have been arrested. Imamoglu, considered a potential rival to President Erdogan, faces charges including corruption, heading a criminal organization, and supporting terrorism. He is still expected to be nominated as his party's presidential candidate in 2028.
