The labor market imbalance in Slovakia is expected to persist, driven by a mismatch between job offers and job seekers' qualifications. Analyst Lubomir Koršňák highlights that despite some improvements, structural issues remain, exacerbated by an aging population and a shrinking workforce. Long-term unemployment, with 40% of unemployed individuals jobless for over two years, is a significant concern. Regional disparities exist, with more job opportunities in western Slovakia, particularly around Bratislava and Trnava, compared to eastern regions like Prešov. Slovakia is increasingly reliant on foreign workers, especially from Ukraine and non-EU countries, due to labor shortages. While filling all vacancies with domestic job seekers could reduce unemployment, this is deemed unlikely due to ongoing mismatches in skills and regional distribution.
