Netflix Plans to Spend $1 Billion Making Content in Mexico Over the Next 4 Years

Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos says the money will go toward projects like Alfonso Cuarón's film Roma, which was made in Mexico and went on to international acclaim.

Netflix plans to invest $1 billion in film and TV production in Mexico over the next four years, as announced by CEO Ted Sarandos during a press conference with Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum. The investment includes a $2 million upgrade to Mexico City's Churubusco Studios. Netflix has a history of successful productions in Mexico, such as *Roma* and *Club de Cuervos*, and has established its Latin American headquarters in Mexico City, with a tenfold workforce growth. The company highlights the economic impact, including a $18.5 million GDP contribution from the film *Pedro Paramo* and job creation. Sheinbaum noted Mexico's tax incentives, competitive costs, and cultural richness as key factors in Netflix's decision.
