New Olympics chief Kirsty Coventry backs blanket ban for trans athletes from all female events

Former Zimbabwean Olympic swimmer Kirsty Coventry, 41, was today elected as the new Olympics chief, pipping Lord Sebastian Coe and Juan Antonio Samaranch to the position.

Kirsty Coventry was elected the new Olympics chief, becoming the first woman and African to hold the role. She supports a blanket ban on transgender athletes in female events. Questions are raised about her role in the IOC's approval of two female boxers, Imane Khelif and Lin Yu Ting, for the 2024 Olympics despite gender eligibility concerns and bans from the International Boxing Association.
