The Dutch government, led by a right-wing coalition including the Party for Freedom (PVV), has announced a significant reduction in funding for development cooperation, cutting 2.4 billion euros annually. The funds previously supported climate protection, democracy promotion, and UNICEF. The government now prioritizes aligning development aid with national interests, as stated by Minister Reinette Klever of the PVV. This shift includes defunding projects related to women's rights, gender equality, education, sports, and cultural initiatives. Starting in 2027, the Netherlands will allocate approximately 3.8 billion euros annually for development aid, a substantial reduction from previous levels.
