One in five private school teachers had colleagues made redundant over Labour's VAT on fees, shocking survey reveals

A survey by the National Education Union found that 22% of private school teachers reported redundancies among colleagues due to Labour's VAT on school fees, which came into effect in January. Additionally, 26% reported recruitment freezes, and 30% noted impacts on inflation-related pay rises. The NEU survey, polling 4,000 teachers, also indicated that pay increases in private schools are lagging behind the state sector, with many teachers taking on extra paid work to cope with the cost of living.
