Ontario destinations are becoming popular among people ditching U.S. trips

The pandemic and resulting cost of living crisis may have gotten us down, but Canadian patriotism has quickly rebounded to new heights since the Trump administration imposed steep tariffs on imports from the north (along with, you know, threatening to take us over).In an act of boycott, many from Ontario and across the country are renouncing their travel plans to the U.S. in favour of exploring more of the Great White North and supporting the Canadian economy, alongside purchasing more made-in-Canada goods.Though people have been understandably vocal about cancelling American vacations and otherwise voting with their dollar in light of everything going on, we are seeing more and more stats backing this trend up — for example, the fact that the number of border crossings from Canada to the U.S. has already plunged significantly within a matter of weeks.Airbnb is also seeing a major shift in booking habits, with more Canadia...



Due to political tensions and a desire for domestic tourism, Ontario destinations like Collingwood and Elora are trending on Airbnb as Canadians opt for local travel over trips to the U.S. overall domestic searches have increased by 20% in 2025. Other trending Canadian destinations include Yellowknife, Campbell River, and Communauté maritime des Îles-de-la-Madeleine, as well as destinations in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Toronto.
