Palworld, a Pokémon-inspired survival game developed by Japanese studio Pocketpair, has reached a milestone of over 32 million players across Steam, PS5, and Xbox. The game, which features creatures called "Pals" that can be captured and used for combat, launched on PC and Xbox in January 2024 and later on PS5 in September 2024. Despite its popularity, Pocketpair is facing a patent infringement lawsuit from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, which claim the game infringes on multiple Pokémon-related patents. The lawsuit seeks an injunction against Palworld and damages of over JPY 5 million each. Palworld has become one of the most played games on Steam, with a peak concurrent player count of over two million, making it the third most played game on the platform.
