Pilots’ union wants judge to keep temporary foreign workers out of WestJet cockpits

Airline requested about 60 permits for pilots from India and South Africa under the TFW program

The Air Line Pilots Association is petitioning the Federal Court to block WestJet's plan to hire approximately 60 temporary foreign pilots from India and South Africa for its regional subsidiary, WestJet Encore. The union argues the move could erode safety and undercut wages, claiming the government didn't properly consult with them and drew incorrect conclusions about the necessity of foreign pilots. WestJet states that it has not yet hired any pilots through the LMIA process.
