PIP disability benefit change will see 150,000 people lose other DWP payments

Chancellor Rachel Reeves delivered her Spring Statement today where she confirmed major cuts to the welfare bill which will impact up to 3.2 million families by 2030

Changes to Personal Independence Payment (PIP) eligibility, starting November 2026, will result in an estimated 150,000 people losing Carer’s Allowance or the carer element of Universal Credit by 2029/30. New rules require a minimum of four points in at least one activity to receive the daily living part of PIP. The Work Capability Assessment will be replaced with the PIP assessment, and those with severe, lifelong conditions will receive additional income support.
