Barnet Council is considering a plan by Regal to build 1,502 new homes and a new leisure centre in Finchley, demolishing the existing Great North Leisure Park. City Hall supports the plan in principle, but is scrutinizing its viability assessment, particularly the affordability of only 23% of the homes. Objections have been raised regarding the impact on local wildlife, specifically the great crested newt population. A decision is expected by April 28.
