Probe after pupil, 11, hit by train on way to school in south London

An 11-year-old boy, Jaiden Shehata, was fatally struck by a train at Bourneview Level Crossing in Croydon, south London, on January 23 while walking to school. The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has launched an investigation into the incident, during which the train was traveling at around 50mph. The probe will examine factors that may have influenced the child's actions and any prior incidents at the crossing. Jaiden, a student at Riddlesdown Collegiate, was described as a kind and popular member of the school community. The school has advised pupils not to use the crossing. The investigation is separate from any inquiries by the railway industry or the Office of Rail and Road.
