Protestors wanted the mayor and police commissioner to hear from survivors directly.
Protestors attempted to enter Andy Burnham’s Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) offices on February 17 to demand a meeting with the mayor and police commissioner regarding child sexual exploitation (CSE) cases in Greater Manchester. The group, including survivors of CSE from Oldham and Rochdale, gathered at the building’s entrance and some entered the premises, holding placards and chanting “justice for the children.” They were told no representative of Burnham was available to speak with them. The mayor’s spokesperson acknowledged the protest and highlighted past actions against CSE, including establishing a major investigation team and supporting victims.
