Rare painting of The Beatles by Paisley artist John Byrne set to go to auction

The artwork was bought by a Renfrew priest in the 1970s and is one of 10 pieces that will go under the hammer at auction next month.

A rare painting of The Beatles by late Paisley artist John Byrne, created in 1969 as a study for a larger work, is being auctioned along with nine other Byrne pieces. The painting, depicting the Beatles with their "spirit animals" and Yoko Ono in a crystal ball, was purchased by Father Tom Jamieson in the 1970s and is estimated to be worth £10,000 to £15,000. The larger version of the painting was used in The Beatles Illustrated Lyrics and as the cover of The Beatles Ballads LP.
