‘Really smart rugby brain’ – Jamie Osborne backed to shine in unfamiliar role

Osborne will line up on the right wing for Ireland against title rivals France.

Jamie Osborne is set to make his debut at right wing for Ireland in the Guinness Six Nations clash against France, after being switched from full-back due to Mack Hansen's quad injury. Ireland interim coach Simon Easterby praised Osborne's versatility, describing him as a "fabulous footballer" with a "really smart rugby brain." Easterby highlighted Osborne's ability to play multiple positions in the backline, offering flexibility for the team. Osborne's move comes as part of four personnel changes to Ireland's starting lineup, with Caelan Doris set to earn his 50th cap, Hugo Keenan returning at full-back, and Bundee Aki replacing Garry Ringrose. Easterby emphasized the team's focus on performance rather than milestone occasions for long-serving players.
