The dog was found dead in a crate in their Santa Fe home, where Hackman and Arakawa were also found deceased due to heart disease with complications from Alzheimer’s disease and hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, respectively. The dog's stomach was mostly empty, and partial mummification was noted.
