Report: Nicaragua Received $373.5 Million in Remittances from the U.S. in January

In January 2025, Nicaragua received $373.5 million in remittances from the U.S., representing 83% of the total $448.2 million received that month. While down 7% from December 2024, the January 2025 figure was up $81.4 million compared to January 2024. Remittances accounted for over 27% of Nicaragua's GDP in 2024, with the U.S. being the primary source (82.8%). The increase in remittances has reportedly helped stabilize Nicaragua's economy and benefits the Ortega regime.
