Report: Trump Expected to Make English America's Official Language

President Trump is expected to sign an executive order designating English as the official language of the United States, rescinding a 1998 mandate by President Bill Clinton requiring federal agencies to provide services in other languages. While agencies can still offer assistance in other languages, the order aims to promote unity, efficiency, and civic engagement. Over 30 states already recognize English as their official language. Polling shows strong support, with 78% in 2018 and 73% in 2021 backing the move. Trump previously criticized Jeb Bush for speaking Spanish during the 2015 campaign.
