Not so long ago, if you had a six-figure salary or a million pounds in the bank, you'd be laughing. But an investigation by Money Mail finds that in Britain today, £100,000 would barely touch the sides.
According to a Money Mail investigation, a £100,000 income is no longer sufficient for a "wealthy" lifestyle in Britain. An HSBC survey revealed that people in the UK believe an income of £213,000 is needed to feel wealthy, nearly six times the national average salary. Factors contributing to the increased cost of a wealthy lifestyle include rising house prices, higher mortgage rates, and private school fees. To take home £100,000 a year, pre-tax earnings would need to be £160,000 to £170,000.
