The National Assembly approved the decision. Former President Jonathan and Nobel Laureate Soyinka condemned the suspension of elected officials, with Jonathan citing abuse of power and Soyinka calling it against the spirit of federalism. The Presidency responded, stating their opinions were personal, referencing a Supreme Court ruling regarding the functionality of the Rivers State government.
