Father-of-two Mizanur Rahman, 41, died from the effects of smoke inhalation after the fire in the flat in Shadwell, east London

A couple, Sofina Begum and Aminur Rahman, who rented a grossly overcrowded flat in east London, were fined £90,000 after a fatal fire caused by a faulty e-bike battery. The flat, licensed for three people, was occupied by 23 individuals. Mizanur Rahman, a tenant, died from smoke inhalation. The couple pleaded guilty to nine housing offences, including overcrowding and failing safety regulations. The court emphasized their disregard for safety and financial gain. The Tower Hamlets Council and the mayor highlighted the need for stricter regulations against rogue landlords.
