RTB writes to major landlord Ires Reit over attempts to impose monthly common area charges

Ires Reit had attempted charging tenants as much as €200 at one of its Dublin apartments.

The RTB is investigating Ires Reit's attempts to charge tenants in a Dublin apartment block an extra €150-€200 monthly for common area use, potentially circumventing RPZ rules limiting rent increases. The RTB has contacted Ires Reit and warns of potential sanctions up to €30,000 per breach. Tenants can also dispute charges, potentially receiving damages and overpaid rent reimbursement. Ires Reit previously dropped similar charges for one tenant after RTB mediation but has declined to comment on the practice's extent.
