Schoolboy (11) died after falling through roof of pub's smoking area

Calvin Curley-Gray, from Dundalk, Co Louth, was pronounced dead at Children’s Health Ireland at Temple Street in Dublin

In September 2022, 11-year-old Calvin Curley-Gray died from a traumatic brain injury after falling through the Perspex roof of a pub's smoking area in Dundalk. He and friends accessed the roof via metal steps and a rusty gate, where he fell through a plastic sheet covering the roof. A customer found him on the floor, and the pub owner was unaware of the roof access or who installed the roof, though she believed a black plastic sheet had been placed over it. The inquest heard that access to the roof has now been blocked.
